How Should I Take This Medication?
Generic Aricept is in tablet form (tablet and disintegrating tablet) and is required to be taken orally. It can be taken with or without food once daily. Recommended intake is before bedtime but people suffering from insomnia may take this in the morning. It is advised to take Generic Aricept at a fixed schedule everyday to maintain its level of consistency in the blood. Directions for taking this medication should be followed strictly and you should not take more than its recommended dosage. Always take this medicine with a glass full of water.
What Should I Tell My Doctor Before Taking Generic Aricept?
You should consult your doctor prior to intake of this medication if you are of childbearing age, are pregnant or planning to have a baby. You should also inform your doctor if you are currently breastfeeding. In addition, tell your doctor about your medical history and if you are currently taking medications for certain diseases or disorders. Similarly, tell your doctor if you are currently suffering from any of the following diseases:
- Sick sinus syndrome or slow heartbeats and other heat rhythm disorders
- Obstructive pulmonary disease or asthma
- Epilepsy and other seizure disorders
- Urination problems
- Enlarged prostate
- History of stomach ulcers
What Should I Watch For When Using This Medicine?
Avoid alcohol while taking this medication as it may increase the risk of side effects. Generic Aricept is also not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women as it can have an effect on the infant.
Drug Interactions
Generic Aricept may interact with other medications including the following:
- Tacrine, galantamine, rivastigmine, and other cholinesterase inhibitors
- General anesthetics
- Bethanechol
- Succinylcholine
- Ketoconazole
- Anticholinergic medications
- Barbiturates
- Some anticonvulsants, such as Phenytoin, Carbamazepine, Fosphenytoin, and Oxcarbazepine
- Ibuprofen, Celecoxib, Naproxen and other NSAIDs drugs
- Rifamycin antibiotics
- SSRI-type antidepressants
Side Effects.
Common side effects of Generic Aricept include loss of appetite, dizziness, tiredness, vomiting, trouble sleeping, weight loss, nausea, and diarrhea. These side effects are usually mild. In some instances, patients may experience severe side effects, such as tarry, black, or bloody stools; fainting; painful irritations; severe headaches and dizziness, persistent severe heartburn or stomach pain; depression; shortness of breath and other breathing problems; seizures; chest pain; painful urination; swelling in the mouth, tongue, face, or lips; tremor; vomit that looks like blood; unusual bruising; swollen hands, ankles, and feet; and unusual tiredness. It is advised to contact your doctor immediately if any of these serious symptoms occur.
Storage.
Generic Aricept should be kept at room temperature, preferably between 15 and 30 degree Celsius. It should be kept away from heat and moisture and away from the reach of children and pets.
