How to Take Medicine
Your Celebrex should be taken as prescribed with a glass of water, either with or without a meal. Even though you should try it with a meal (especially if you are on a high dose,
400mg or over). Do not lie down for 10 minutes after consumption and be aware that long term use may increase the risk of heart attack or stroke.
If this medication is for a child then talk to a specialist.
If you have taken an overdose, then immediately contact your local emergency room. Never share this medicine with anybody else, because this has been prescribed for you only.
Missing a Dose
If you miss a dose, then do not worry, just continue to take it again as normal. However, never take two tablets in one day to make up for a missing one.
If I Want To Take This Tablet What Should I Tell My Doctor?
Your doctor needs to know the following information if you want to take this tablet:
- Stomach ulcers
- Heart problem, angina, a history of heart problems in your family, an irregular heartbeat or any other heart condition
- CABG surgery in the last month
- Any kidney or liver problems
- Asthma
- Allergies (this includes other medicines, foods, dyes or preservatives)
- If your blood pressure is either high or low
- Pregnant or trying to conceive
- If you drink more than three alcohol containing drinks per day
- Breast feeding
Drug Interactions
Celebrex cannot be taken with the following:
- Methotrexate
- Cidofovir
- Other pain medication (including over the counter)
- Pemetrexed
This medicine could also tamper with the following:
- Aspirin
- Diuretics
- Fluconazole
- Lithium
- Alcohol
- Warfarin
- Steroid medicine
- High blood pressure tablets
It is best to make sure you tell your doctor all the medications (and supplements) that you are taking. It is also advisable to inform the doctor of your lifestyle habits, (smoking, drinking and illegal drugs) because some of these 'activities' may interact with Celebrex.
Precautions
If your pain does not decrease in the specified time, then you need to contact your doctor for a check-up.
Never take any additional anti-pain medications or over-the-counter medications because 'minor' side effects are much more likely to occur.
This medicine can cause bleeding in the stomach and intestines. Regular checkups are required to ensure this medication is not causing these problems.
Side Effects
As with all medications there is a small chance that you may experience side effects:
- Allergic reactions
- Blood in urine or vomit
- Changes to your stool
- Problems with vision
- Breathing problems
- Balance problems
- Nausea or vomiting
- Blistering of the skin
- Weight gain
- Fatigue
- Yellowing of the eyes or skin
If you experience any of these side effects above, stop taking the medication and inform your doctor as soon as possible.
Other side effects may include:
- Heartburn
- Constipation
- Dizziness
- Diarrhoea
- Back pain
- Dizziness
- Indigestion
If you experience one of these side effects then you can continue to take the medication as long as you want. In an instance where any one of these side effects becomes annoying contact your doctor.

Storage
Keep out of the reach of children at room temperature. If you still have some tablets left over, then please dispose of carefully or hand over to your doctor who will dispose them for you.
